Pretty cool place. They sell a range of meats, cheeses, wines, beers and probably other gourmet food items. I was here mainly for the beer though. They've got a decent selection of craft beers from around the world. The service was ok. I milled around at the back of the store looking up beers on my phone while I was trying to decide what to buy. You'd think that after half an hour somebody would have come over to at the very least check that I wasn't stealing things. But nobody came. However, the people at the counter were very friendly and were more than happy to give me a couple of dollars off because the register made an error.
i dont need this at this moment thank you.
This is one of the best deli/specialty shops in Melbourne. From the Meredith goats cheese to the imported French Pear cider. From the artisan breads to the selection of smallgoods.
Restored the historic feel of the old deli whilst giving it a warm, modern feel. From the rooftop to the cellar, this has been executed brilliantly. Great cocktails and views on the roof, amazing selection at the deli and the gnocchi from the espresso bar was one of the best I've ever had. This has been worth the wait.
After far too long waiting for King and Godfree to re-open I must say that the wait was definitely worth it. A super new store design with fabulous produce, cheese, meats and wines and now a really good dining experience to add to the existing fun in Carlton. My wife and I shared some amazing Lasagna and mixed salads with iced lattes and it was all memorable - as was the quality and friendliness of the service. It is going to be very popular so you may need to wait for a table if you come at a busy time ... but you can always browse!!
Great rooftop space....beautiful on a very warm evening but it would be helpful if they had heaters that threw out heat, the fireplaces are purely decorative.Food is great value and arrives quickly.Drink service is very hit and miss at this early stage and some consistency in quality through staff training would be welcome. All and all...still a great addition to Lygon St but certainly room for improvement.
Excellent revamp. Great food. Excellent for a drink, meal, take away, groceries. But $13 was a bit rich for a small can of cider when a pint of beer is &10 or less!
Love the renovations. This is now one of my favourite places on Lygon. Lovely staff, great choice of wine. I'm yet to try the rooftop bar but it's on my to do list.
Good quality is good. Coffee is great. But they don't have much options to choose.
Paid $5.00 for a pot of tea that was a tea bag - i can do that at home. Other nearby cafes have tea leaves for a lot less than mentioned above. Quite confusing if you have never been here before (first time) whether you go to the counter and order or not. Table service but i had to ask. Stools on a communal table not all that comfortable. Interesting layout of store. Toilets are away down a hall near a lift. Toilets are unisex which i definitely do not like. Otherwise, clean toilets and paper towels/hand drier. Secluded area does not feel safe. Unfortunately, i will not be back.
K & G modernised. Great coffee, and has to be in Lygon St. After the renovations, more of a cafe, bar, and I believe smaller number of deli choices. Still lovely produce
It's a sophisticated place with nice atmosphere. They have started serving dinner again which is great for those who wish to have quick dinner with a glass of wine after work. The staff are friendly and attentive. I often buy Fougasse, French bread, there. I hope they can sell the bread from 8 o'clock in the morning so that I can buy it before going to work.
The hot chocolate and cold chocolate were good. The quince cheese cake was soft and tasty however the base was hard. It was so hard it was a impossible to cut with the fork or the knife. Ended up eating it whole like a biscuit.
Food was delicious! 10/10. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We were served by Tom, even in his first week, he was informative, friendly and attentive to all our needs. The highlight was the Gnocchi Ragu and Gnocchi Pesto. Can't wait to eat here again!
Waited for over 10minutes to be acknowledged that we were even there... then had to interrupt and ask for a menu... then waited 15minutes not to be served at all... then left, with no acknowledgement... sadly didn’t even get to try anything 😒
Service & coffee are great but their Porchetta roll is absolutely amazing. Also have a deli with a large variety of salami & cheese. If it's a nice day the rooftop is definitely worth a visit
This place seems to be struggling big time. 25 minute wait between ordering a sandwich and it arriving. Multiple people ordering after us got their food first, someone seated after us managed to order, eat and leave before our food arrived. When our food arrived it was cold, dry and lacked any sort of seasoning. Service was polite but scarce.
Actually it was really good. There place was full but we managed to get a tiny table near the front door. Perfect for our impromptu group of 4 as we just wanted coffee which was served quickly and efficiently but our waiter who was on his first day. The bill was quick and easy to pay. I was impressed with the efficiency of the place yet it was relaxed and friendly. It reputation and history are well deserved
Terrific Deli and food. beautiful renovation. Staff chat amongst themselves and ignore customers. It's very difficult to raise their attention. Their knowledge of the food and wine that they sell is very poor, as is their care factor.
Refit is great, my food was quite delicious, but overall service and experience was lacking. Soup portions very small and in wide open shallow bowls, not ideal. Once they find their feet I think will be great, but some work to do
I don't think the new King & Godfree has as much character as the old one. While the food and coffee is quite good, the service feels impersonal and inattentive. The deli has some interesting, albeit expensive, items.

Excellent place to sit and rest without buying anything because the wait staff will not come to give you a menu or ask you to order anything for a very long time. Sit at the long table along the window for a nice view of the street and people walking by.
I set at the first floor.I had roast chicken. It was fresh and very tasty. The service was good.
Great food & friendly staff. Lots of options if you want to take away for later. Yummy bread & cheese.
Bad service - waitresses look like they’d rather be elsewhere and take far too long to acknowledge and take your order. Coffee was too hot. Loved the lemon polenta cake - would definitely get the cake again, but to take away. The re-fit has been done really well - and the deli is superb.
Food is great. Service is great one day, and terrible the next... A brilliant concept, space and just continues to push innovative boundaries. It is my regular!
Food was pretty terrible. Vegan burger that tasted like it came from the supermarket and served with cold chips. Nice spot for a beverage but don't order the vegan burger!
Had a staff Christmas party on the rooftop. View was great.. but that's the last of the positives. Business/ staff so unorganised, understaffed, rude. Had to line up to get drinks, over 25mins for my partner and over 35 for another friend - to which they had to pay for because staff didn't advise which beers/wine were included within the pre-paid drinks package. they brought a couple of bottles of wine over to the group so people didn't have to wait at the bar.. and only a few wine glasses. We're talking for over 60 people. When food finally came out, it was like seagulls on a chip. An absolute joke considering the money that was paid. A location with real opportunity to thrive with Melbourne's love of rooftop bars.. such a disappointment.
Great Coffee, outside seating for Pooch but didn't realise how big it was until I went to powder my nose. It was like the tardis!!
Great decor and setup. Everything you need under one roof for nice Italian meal. A bit pricey but worth it, will definitely come back.
Quite a busy place for lunch. The earlier the better as they tend to run out of some items. A little hiccup with my food order but they were really apologetic and managed to work it out. The pasta was great also.
Shockingly small pasta for $26. We returned it payed for our drinks and left. Was an awful experience to say the least.
Fabulous fit out and style. Really fresh interior which is clean and stylish. Contrary to other reviewers I found the service to be great. Three waitresses were checking in with me, not super friendly/smiley but still I found them attentive.I wasn’t super hungry so just wanted a light meal. I ordered the calamari entree as suggested by one of the waitresses. To be honest it wasn’t the best, too salty and very much the thin circular calamari which was a little too overdone. Would have benefited from a bit of rocket or something to balance the salt. However it was pretty fast to come out of the kitchen. The coffee was excellent (soy cappuccino). I would definitely go here again but wouldn’t order the calamari as I’ve had a lot better. Seems like it would be a great place to go with a small group, great location and prices seem reasonable.
Great food, terrible service. Waited for half an hour for someone to acknowledge my presence and take my order while I watched other people who came in after me get served. Asked baristas if I was meant to order at the counter but they said no, to sit down and someone will get my order. Tried to get waiter’s attention but he seemed to be avoiding me. Ended up just walking out and going somewhere else.
8 months ago, i tested this place out with a pot of tea and was not impressed probably because the business had just commenced after being closed for a many years. Now, i can say i am quite impressed with the service and comfort and a good pot of tea that is full to the top and not half a pot as some places practice. Comfort as in not having to ask to put the airconditioner on when clearly it's hot. Surrounds are pleasant and does get very busy. Love all the deli displays. Toilets are unisex which i do not like and down a hallway. Toilets are clean and paper towels to dry hands and plenty of toilet paper. Relaxing and not too loud soft music. A pleasure !
We only went there to buy groceries, but we were amazed by the shop/cafe!!! Nice and elegant, busy but not noisy! Such a great place where to shop or have Breakfast/lunch/brunch. The Deli section is my favourite!!!!!
Good quality is good. Coffee is great. But they don't have much options to choose.
Great to see this deli back in action. Now that my student days are over I have a bit more cash to drop on lunchtime sandwiches which have gotten better since my last visit some time ago. It's still early days so get it to go while they work out some service issues but I've no doubt it will be thriving in no time. I look forward to doing some Christmas shopping as the grocery section looked delectable.
